Accessibility

We don’t want there to be any barriers to you coming to or enjoying Wellcome Collection. Here are just some of the services we offer.

Step-free access

All the floors in Wellcome Collection have step-free access.

Adapted toilets

There are adapted toilets on all floors.

Assistance animals

You’re very welcome to bring along your assistance animals.

Wheelchair users

We’re a wheelchair-accessible building. We can lend you a wheelchair for your visit – just ask at the Information Point on the ground floor.

If you want to reserve a wheelchair, please call us in advance.

Blue Badge parking

We have parking bays for Blue Badge holders. Please call or email us before your visit to book a space.

Our Blue Badge bays are in our car park at 42 Gower Place, behind Wellcome Collection.

Gower Place is one way. You drive into it from Gordon Street. There are two silver car lifts halfway along Gower Place, just past the goods entrances on the right-hand side. The lift you need is the furthest to the right of these two car lifts.

When you arrive, press the buzzer marked ‘security’ or call 020 7611 2222.

There are also Blue Badge parking bays near us. Blue Badge’s London map has more about this.

Visual access

You can borrow a magnifying glass or magnifying sheet from the ground-floor Information Point.

We also have large-print label guides for our permanent exhibitions and some temporary exhibitions.

There are Braille labels for and tactile reproductions of some of the objects in our ‘Medicine Man’ exhibition. They’re in special drawers set into the gallery walls.

Induction loops

There are fixed induction loops at:

  • the ground-floor Information Point
  • the Library enquiry desks on level 2
  • venue hire reception on the lower ground floor

There are fixed induction loops in all the venues and spaces we hire out. We also have portable induction loops. You can get these at the Information Point on the ground floor. Call us in advance to reserve a portable loop.

Access tours and discussions

We offer free tours of our exhibitions for visitors with access needs. They include:

  • British Sign Language (BSL) tours
  • audio-described tours
  • speech to text tours

Explore all of our access events or join our mailing list for future access events.

Guided visits

We can organise guided tours for people with access needs. One of our Visitor Experience Team will come around the exhibitions with you and provide extra help where it’s needed. Call or email us to book a guided visit.
