"The Pueblos were represented by a delegation of about twenty men from Santa Clara pueblo on the upper Rio Grande in New Mexico. … Their present governor, Diego Naranjo, with the last ex-governor, old Jose de Jesus Naranjo, accompanied the party, the former bearing as his staff of office an inscribed silver-headed cane presented to the pueblo by President Lincoln in 1863."—Mooney, op. cit., pp. 143-144
