About this work

Description

Watercolour drawing of the interior of a larynx after tracheotomy. The lower end of the tube had ulcerated through the mucous membrane below the wound and raised a small flap. This acted like a valve, and during a fit of coughing closed the trachea, and caused the death of the child.
