About this work

Description

On 12 March 1857, at Hamilton, Ontario, a train from Toronto left the track on approaching a bridge over the Desjardin Canal (also known as the Desjardins Canal). The locomotive and some of the carriages fell into the icy waters, and 59 passengers were killed by drowning or by the force of the fall
